BEYONDER Battery campus
Lead. A circular battery-cell production facility on a rare scale: 800,000 m² in a single coherent campus, integrating R&D, production, logistics, and public realm. On completion it would be the largest factory building in Europe.
Site & brief. The site sits at Kalberg, in Stavanger municipality, sized for a fully circular cell-production process — material in, cells out, with reuse and recovery loops kept on-site rather than shipped elsewhere. The brief required pre-engineering, site-readiness assessment, architectural concept, and zoning work to be developed in parallel rather than in sequence.
Idea. A campus, not a shed. At this scale, factories typically read as anonymous boxes on a field; the design instead organises R&D, production, and logistics around a coherent spatial spine, with public realm and visitor-legible architecture treated as part of the brief rather than left out of it.
